Well, it was a crazy time flying over to Germany but I finally made it, though it took forever! Sarah and I were both so jetlagged that we both ended up sleeping 16 hours (she slept 17)! I looked at my watch when I woke up and saw that it was 2 o’clock and I thought that it was quiet bright outside for being so early…haha! One thing that did make it a lot brighter outside was the fact that it snowed! My first snow of the season! So Sarah and I stayed in that afternoon and caught up on many things!
Later that evening we picked up Sarah’s friend Maren and drove to the nearby
town of Buxtehugen. Sarah’s friend Maren is such a dear and speaks English very well because she goes to school in the Netherlands. We walked through the town where there was a Christmas festival going on, apparently these festivals are traditional at this time of year. They then took me to a café called the New York Café to make me feel at home. The ceiling had maps of NYC and things written in English all over. There was this one quote on the ceiling that I hope to live my abroad experience by, “You live only once, but if you make it worth while, then once is enough.” We then walked back to the Christmas festival because they insisted that I try this traditional German Christmas drink called Gluehwein. It is warm red wine with spices in it, and when you order it you can have it plain or have rum or amaretto added to it. I ordered the Amaretto and could only drink a little bit of it because it was so strong, but good.
